چکیده
Particles floating at interfaces are commonly observed in nature, as well industrial processes. When the particles non-Brownian particles, large deformations of interface created that induce long-ranged capillary interactions and lead to formation particle rafts with unique characteristics. In this review we discuss recent efforts investigating raft role rafts’ own weight during dynamic clustering. Under specific conditions, these can ultimately collapse sink. subjected external or internal forces, undergoes test mechanical characteristics interfacial composite material. It behave a continuous elastic sheet under compression, although its discrete nature also trigger fragmentation via interparticle interactions. Finally, armored droplets, drops covered by protective shell lose their integrity when submitted deformations, resulting ejection fracturing armor. Open questions understand properties material highlighted future research fundamental physics rafts, customization cluster formation, disassembly collective is suggested.

Dynamics of surfactant-driven fracture of particle rafts.
We investigate the dynamic fracture of a close-packed monolayer of particles, or particle raft, floating at a liquid-gas interface induced by the localized addition of surfactant. Unusually for a two-dimensional solid, our experiments show that the speed of crack propagation here is not affected by the elastic properties of the raft. Instead it is controlled by the rate at which surfactant is a...
متن کاملArmored Geomembrane Cover Engineering
Geomembranes are an important component of modern engineered barriers to prevent the infiltration of stormwater and runoff into contaminated soil and rock as well as waste containment facilities--a function generally described as a geomembrane cover. This paper presents a case history involving a novel implementation of a geomembrane cover system. Due to this novelty, the design engineers neede...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulations of the evaporation of particle-laden droplets.
We use molecular dynamics simulations to study the evaporation of particle-laden droplets on a heated surface. The droplets are composed of a Lennard-Jones fluid containing rigid particles, which are spherical sections of an atomic lattice, and heating is controlled through the temperature of an atomistic substrate. We observe that sufficiently large (but still nanosized) particle-laden drops e...
متن کاملSmoothed particle hydrodynamics-based numerical investigation on sessile, oscillating droplets.
Forced oscillations in sessile droplets can be exploited in electrowetting mixing of fluid fractions. The necessary complex flows and large shape deformations require a numerical investigation of fluid dynamics in the transient regime. We provide a means to characterize oscillations qualitatively and quantitatively with the goal to examine and to classify flow patterns occurring inside. A super...
متن کاملParticle Image Velocimetry (piv) for Cloud Droplets – Laboratory Investigations
Interaction between small-scale turbulence and cloud particles is a key issue in warm rain formation mechanism, which is an important meteorological and climatological challenge [1],[2]. We investigate this interaction observing motion of cloud droplets in a glass walled chamber 1m deep, 1m wide and 1.8m high [3]. The second smaller chamber, placed above the main one is filled with water drople...
